Calculate your ascendant
Your ascendant is the sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth. Exact birth time and birthplace matter, because the ascendant changes about every two hours.
Calculate your birth chart
Astrology is a symbolic interpretation, not a scientifically proven prediction. Astronomical positions are calculated with an analytical method.
What the ascendant means
The ascendant describes how you appear outwardly, how you approach new people and situations, and the first impression you make. It does not replace your sun sign; it complements it.
Why time and place matter
Without an exact time, the ascendant cannot be calculated reliably. Even a few minutes or a different birthplace can change it, especially near a sign boundary.
Frequently asked questions about the ascendant
What is the ascendant?
The ascendant is the sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth. It describes how you appear outwardly and the first impression you make.
Do I need my exact birth time for the ascendant?
Yes. Without an exact birth time the ascendant cannot be calculated reliably, because it changes about every two hours.
Is the ascendant calculation free?
Yes. You can calculate your ascendant here free and without registration.
How is the ascendant calculated?
From birth time, birthplace and geographic coordinates, the sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of birth is calculated.
Why does the ascendant change so fast?
Because the Earth rotates, a new sign rises on the eastern horizon about every two hours. That is why exact time matters so much.
What is the difference between ascendant and sun sign?
The sun sign describes your inner core, the ascendant shows how you appear outwardly and start new situations.
Can I calculate the ascendant without a birthplace?
No. Birthplace matters as much as time, because the horizon depends on location. Without it the result is not reliable.
What if my ascendant is near a sign boundary?
Then even a few minutes can change it. In that case check the exact time, for example on the birth certificate.
Is the ascendant more important than the sun sign?
No. The ascendant complements the sun sign, it does not replace it. Together they give a fuller picture.
Which house system is used?
Placidus is the default, and you can also choose Whole Sign. In both systems the ascendant is the starting point of the first house.
